Alto's Adventure

It's not often that I post a review on my blog, but once in a while something comes along that I feel I should just give a little nod to.

Alto's Adventure is a beautifully stylised game for iOS, with changing weather, simple objectives, and the replayability of Super Mario.

The premise of the game is simple. You play as a snowboarder attempting to get as far through the world as possible, while collecting points for stunts, and rounding up escaped Llamas.

Your mission is made more challenging by the chasms that appear, and an old sleeping man who insists on teaching you a lesson for waking him up.

Levels are generated procedurally so they are slightly different every time you play, you unlock new characters as you pass level challenges, and can upgrade certain special abilities using coins that you pick up while you play.

The entire screen becomes the controller, with just a simple tap or hold to get the character to perform jumps and flips. Note: This is how you win at the one button challenge ;)

The trailer below gives a nice introduction to the superb level design.

Alto is just £1.49 or $1.99 on the iOS App Store, and is provided as a universal app, so you can play it on your iPhone or your iPad.
